The problem with the world is that political leftism has become the new "in thing". It's so pathetic I have to compare their religious zeal to "Beatlemania". A hardcore liberal is about as easy to argue politics with as it is to argue religion with a born-again Christian. There's no basis for logical discussion, no give and take, simply an irrational screaming session with someone who has long decided that the view they have is the ONLY correct view and anyone who doesn't follow that view with blind, foaming-at-the-mouth devotion is in some way irreversably evil. This is not an invention of the Obama campaign, on the contrary, this is a wave of social zealotry brought about by a generation of people who are so desperate for a cause to fight for, that they blow any perceived injustice vastly out of proportion. These are the people who compare Abu Ghraib to Auschwitz and take their political views as dogmatic writ, handed down from prophets like P. Diddy and members of S.A.G. While at times the conservative base's staunch denial of any logical argument against their religious doctrine (Roe v Wade, Same sex marriage, stem cell research) has been frustrating, at least their passion is, generally speaking, controlled to a more manageable level and is based on a set of moral codes handed down over generations. When Alec Baldwin is your informed source of political knowledge, you need therapy. The media plays to this, because people who are upset make for better ratings than calm, rational discourse. This is way more people watch "The Real World" than CNN. These are the kind of ignorant people who give you a blank stare when you talk about Buchenwald, Nanking, or Tienamen Square, but go on a thirty minute rant if you broach the subject of healthcare. This is a pop-culture that has been so influenced by popular media, bad movies, and gangster rap, that they have to come to accept it as inevitable truth that our government is some sort of evil entity, bent on turning us all into mindless slaves. If President Obama wants to bring about "Hope & Change", he has a long battle against a monster that propelled him into the White House. Racial hatred may be a dying breed, but political hatred is the new bigotry and until we find a way to stop hating each other, we are all doomed. People have forgotten the incovenient truth, that the needs of the many DO out way those of the few, that life is unfair, and that you get out of life what you put into it. If all you put in is petty anger, social outrage, don't expect a handout. We don't live in a soup kitchen, you have to work to make things better. Love it or leave it.
